Archipelago de las Perlas

Many of the fleet left Panama with the intention of 'popping into the Perlas Islands for a night or two', but after the discovery by Lush the leader of the fleet, of the little gem of a resort on San Jose island, most were tempted to stay a few extra days. Word spread quickly and the Hacienda del Mar resort soon became a favourite dining spot for the fleet, culminating in an impromptu dinner party for thirty on the terrace on Thursday evening.

The rally yachts are now well on their way to the Galapagos Islands, and are eagerly tuning into the radio net each morning for a weather update from Weather Guru Chris Tibbs who is sailing on board the 575 Legend IV. Winds are typically very light in the area of the doldrums which drift between Panama and Galapagos, some of the yachts who lingered longer in the Perlas Archipelago are taking a slightly southerly course have so far found best wind, and are making good progress at 7-10 knots without having to start their engines.
