Erik grew up on the picturesque East End of Long Island, NY. Racer extraordinaire from a young age, he spent his younger years passing on his love of sailing and racing as an instructor. He went on to represent the University of Southern California in regattas all over the country, while completing his studies in International Business and Relations. He has since crewed and raced on a variety of boats including classic yachts in prestigious Classic Yacht Regattas. Before joining Spirit he was the First Mate aboard the timeless 26m Herreshoff designed "Ticonderoga" sailing the waters of the Caribbean and the Northeast Coast of the U.S. He holds a RYA Yachtmaster Offshore License and PADI Open Water Diver Certificate among several other certifications.
Erik and Leah’s meeting brought together opposite ends of the sailing
spectrum, and an opportunity to learn from each other. Together they
spent a winter sailing a lovely custom design 60ft wooden ketch from
Greenport, NY to Guatemala and back, cruising the waters of the Bahamas,
Cuba, and Belize along the way.
Leah grew up in the remote islands of the Azores, surrounded and intrigued by the ocean. After graduating from the University of New Hampshire with a B.A. in English, she set sail for Antarctica and onwards as crew aboard a tall ship. She learned the art of rigging these masterpiece ships and applied her knowledge on every boat since. Leah is truly an international sailor who is fluent in English, Portuguese, Spanish and German. She is an extremely competent sailor with certifications that include a RYA Yachtmaster Offshore rating, USCG 100T Near Costal license and a PADI Open water Diver Certificate. In addition to her crossings and experience in Antarctica she has sailed many miles on all sorts of sailing vessels staying true to her love of learning, traveling, and the ocean.
Together, Leah and Erik make wonderful hosts, catering to individual needs - planning itineraries, preparing sumptuous meals and letting guests participate in the sailing experience. Their goal for each charter is to make everyone feel as comfortable on the water, and in the water, as they do and have every guest go home and tell their friends about a sailing trip that exceeded all expectations.
