A rare opportunity to own a shoal draft Oyster 55. The last hull built of the legendary 55 model, "Magically Happens" features rich teak joinery, teak and holly soles, and classic Oyster blue Alcantara upholstery. Six berths and a workshop cabin offer functional yet comfortable accommodation and numerous upgrades.
Designed in 1986 by Holman & Pye, the 55 was intended to create a safe, fast blue water cruising yacht capable of being sailed short handed to follow on the success of the 406, 435 and 46. The 55 features more volume, longer waterline, and better performance that her predecessors. Magically Happens was the last 55 built – hull #48 before the model was replaced by the Oyster 56 in 1998.
The first 16 Oyster 55 hulls were built as 53s with counter transoms, half of which were later extended with the “sugar scoop” transom additions to provide better access to the water. Later hulls included the sugar scoop transom at handover. Oyster 55 successes include twice top points scoring boat in Antigua Race week, ARC class wins, and Europa Rally successes, as well as being a top selection for the Trade Winds Round the World Rally. The 55 is universally recognized as a superb blue water cruiser, capable of safely crossing any ocean in comfort and style.
